Federal court. Mr. Charles "Chip" Thorogood represents the people of the United States in their interest to take on jurisdiction of the Nucky Thompson case, on account of Mann Act violations that -- as he disingenuously grandstands -- he had to read about in the paper, because State's attorney Solomon Bishop failed to come forward with them! Can you imagine?
What initially attracted you to the character of Richard Harrow and how much of his mannerisms did you create?
Jack Huston: It was probably the best character that I had ever read. It was simply written: a man with an affliction on half his face who wears a tin mask to cover it. It was written with a lot of what we in Britain call “full stops” or what you would call periods in the middle of sentences at weird moments. “My name, period, is Richard Harrow,” which I interpreted as Richard having trouble speaking.
Chalky's warehouse is attacked by Klansmen, who shoot and kill four of his bootleggers; in retaliation, Chalky wounds two of them as they make an escape. Nucky orders the police to arrest Chalky for his own protection. While in prison, Chalky is moved to an all-black cell where he is taunted by an out-of-towner named Dunn Purnsley. Chalky does not respond, but instead marshalls the loyalty of his other cellmates so that they will beat Purnsley on his behalf. boardwalk empire dvd
For those that follow us on Twitter (shameless plug), you may have noticed my declaration of love for Boardwalk Empire. The show’s set in Atlantic City during the Prohibition Era and is undoubtedly one of the most well-written shows on television today. One of my favorite characters in the show is Chalky White played by Michael Kenneth Williams, though it should be said that he’s been quiet the last few episodes, hopefully that changes.
